This week, rust is on my mind. I visited a new bakery in my Los Angeles neighborhood. They have this very Instagrammable neon sign hung on a painted white brick wall. While staring at the sign, I noticed the dusty powder that appears when you drill a hole into brick is still lingering all over the wall. Maybe no one on their construction team noticed or in the hustle of opening its a detail low on the priority list. To me it was a fun reminder of the layers we all have. As much as we try to cover up or put a coat of paint on something unsightly it can still peek through - even in just a rusty powder form.
